In this course, students are going to learn 3D printing through Tinkercad. Tinkercad is free online software that helps people to create 3D designs. After finishing this course, students can learn the principles of 3D design and printing. They can construct an understanding of 3D spaces. Also, they are able to use Tinkercad to create 3D model designs.

** Prepare computer login information and administrator access for students before the first lesson
** Using 2 devices in class is recommended
(Laptop/Desktop computer with Chrome installed for practice, phone/tablet for video conference) 

* Students have to use their own computer and register a Tinkercad account through tinkercad.com, which is free of charge.

** Students will receive one of their 3D products after finishing the whole course, which are designed by themselves. (TBC: maybe toy car 3D model / minecraft 3D model, the size of 3D product will be restricted.)

** Students will be asked to switch on camera and mic during the online class
** Online classes may be recorded for internal use such as quality assurance and training purpose.

What is Tinkercad?

Tinkercad is a online Computer Aided Design (CAD) software that helps users to create 3D designs, which suitables for all beginners. Tinkercad is based on constructive solid geometry (CSG). It provides a great variety of 3D shapes for users to create complex 3D models.

What do I need for the class?

Students need to bring their own laptop (Windows or Mac). They have to register a Tinkercad account through tinkercad.com, which is free of charge.

What is course outline?

Our course is project-oriented, and students will design the 3D models individually with their own laptops. The projects are as follows.

  • 3D animal design

  • 3D name tag design

  • 3D phone stand design

  • 3D toy car design

  • 3D Minecraft characters / props design

Who should learn Tinkercad?

Any children of age 6 or older who are interested in 3D design. No prior knowledge is required.

 

What can Tinkercad do?

Since Tinkercad provide numerous 3D shapes, people can create complex models through combining simpler shapes together. Also, 3D electronic circuits can be added to create objects with movement and light. After designing the 3D models on Tinkercad, the file can be saved for 3D printing.
