What is Scratch?

Scratch is developed by the MIT Lab and used by students, teachers and young programmers worldwide to create animations and games.  It consists of a visual programming interface focusing on introducing computing to young programmers. Please refer to scratch.mit.edu for its programming interface.

What can Scratch do?

It consists of media-rich commands that allows programmers to create animations and games using drag-and-drop programming interface.

What is course outline?

Level 1:

Class 1:  Introduction of Programming Scratch - and explore!

 

Class 2:  Animated Stories with your imagination

        -  What constitutes animations and how to animate in Scratch

        -  How to have multiple characters to interact with each other

        -  How to do background changes 

        -  Create own animated stories with different topics

 

Class 3 - 4:  Scratch Game Design

        -  Use variables to track scores and lives

        -  If-then-else conditions 

        -  Synchronisation among characters

        -  Design enhanced maze game and shooting games

Who should learn Scratch?

Any children of age 6 or older and are interested in programming. Indeed, the software has been used by millions of children around the world.

 

Why learn from Coding101?

What do I need for the class?

Students just need to come with their own laptop (Windows / Mac), with Chrome installed. Please prepare administrator access for students before the first lesson. Mouse and charger are highly recommended during the lesson.
